AMD rolls out WHQL-certified 16.7.2 drivers

Do not bring anything new

AMD has released its new Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.2 WHQL drivers, which appear to be same as the 16.7.2 Hotfix drivers released earlier, except for the Microsoft WHQL certification.

According to details in the release notes, the Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.2 WHQL drivers include the same Restore Factory Defaults fix for the Compatibility Mode UI toggle and support for Doom game with Vulkan API, same as the 16.7.2 Hotfix drivers released earlier.

The only new thing which is noted as an important update, is that these are now Microsoft WHQL certified.

Apparently, the new Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.2 WHQL drivers are still focused on the Radeon RX 480 and if you select any of the older Radeon R9/R7 300 series, R9 Fury series or even the Radeon Pro Duo graphics card at the main AMD support page, you get redirected to older Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.2 Hotfix drivers for some weird reason.

On the other hand and according to the release notes, the new WHQL-certified Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.2 drivers support all Radeon products since HD 7700/HD 7900 series so there just might be an error with links on AMD's main site. eTeknix.com site also noticed that these new drivers are reported in the GPU-Z as version 16.7.3, so there is obviously some mixup there.

The new AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.2 WHQL drivers are also available for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 in both 32-bit and 64-bit flavors. Just in case, you might want to download the new drivers from AMD's official release notes as it includes direct links for each Windows OS version.
