Huge demand

It looks like Nvidia is not alone in struggling to meet demand, ATI has the same availability issues with its Radeon 3800 cards. It simply cannot get enough Radeon 3870 cards, and these are being sold faster than  hotcakes.

They are slower than G92, but since 8800 GT is in nowhere to found, many people are going for a bit more affordable 3870 card as an alternative.

Radeon 3850, both 512MB and especially 256MB versions, are much easier to find, but you need to look deeper to find a Radeon 3870 card.

It looks like that they are selling a bit better than ATI had originally expected, but that is a really good thing, isn’t it ?
