Way behind MSI on this one

Asus has announced a new addition to its growing family of Radeon HD 3850 cards, namely the EAH3850 SMART OC/HTDI/1G, and this card has a couple of new selling points. First of all, it has no less than 1GB of DDR2 memory, which should make it quite affordable even though it has a lot of onboard memory, but also slower than competing DDR3 models with less memory.

But what sets this card apart is that the card has a little push-button next to the DVI ports, something MSI did almost a year ago, and pressing it overclocks the card and increases the Voltages. The core clock goes up from 669 to 796MHz while the memory is boosted from 990 to 1,100MHz. Not a bad overclock as such, but Asus claims it only gives the card a 12 percent performance boost on average.

Asus also claims that this can help you save power, that is if you can be asked to reach behind your PC to press the button every time you want to play a game, and then again once you stop playing games.

The card also features Asus's Glaciator cooler, which the company claims runs cooler and quieter than the reference solution from AMD.
