Nvidia never wanted to buy AMD

It was too messy

High-ranked sources inside Nvidia have told Fudzilla that Nvidia never seriously considered buying AMD. They made a very good point why.

The chaps said that AMD was like a very attractive, sexy lady but with many unwanted kids. Marrying this lady would get you a sexy chick, but you would also get a lot of luggage to cope with.

The analogy actually means that despite the fact that AMD has some great CPU technology, it also has very expensive FABs that need to be upgraded every few years, the company has too many employees and some parts of AMD are far from profitable.

Buying AMD brings a lot of problems, as with its current roadmap it doesn’t look that AMD can seriously recover until at least by mid-2009. Intel’s CPU roadmap has never been stronger and AMD still has to get the 45nm CPUs out, and it all indicates that you won’t see them in retail before October / November time.

ATI, a part of AMD, is doing fine and Nvidia would like to get rid of it, but at the same time buying AMD for the sake of ATI would simply be too complex and complicated. Nvidia’s biggest concern in buy-outs were FABs, as no one really wanted to buy them, and Nvidia seems to be happy the way things work with TSMC.
