All about OpenGL

The red team, also known as the ATI, has released a new version of its Catalyst driver, version 8.6.

The new Catalyst brings performance increases for both the Radeon HD 3000 and the Radeon HD 2000 series in 3DMark Vantage, Call of Duty 4, Call of Juarez DX10, Company of Heroes, Lost Planet and some other games. It also features resolved issues with Bioshock, Call of Duty, Crysis, Stalker, UT 3 and many others, just as you would expect from a new Catalyst driver.

New features included in the Catalyst 8.6 drivers consist of custom OpenGL adaptive anti-aliasing filter support and OpenGL CrossFireX (quad GPU) support, as well as new Catalyst installation enhancements. The first two are related only to OpenGL applications. The first one enables 12x and 24x anti-aliasing, while the second one enables CrossFireX support for OpenGL applications.

The third is a bit more interesting, as there is no longer any need to reboot after the installation of the new Catalyst driver, although this is only the case if it is an upgrade from a previous Catalyst install.

You can find the release notes and download the latest Catalyst 8.6 drivers here.
