GDDR3 going mainstream

Taiwanese forum XFastest has scored a Geforce 9500GT with 256MB of GDDR3 memory and put it through its paces, although only in a few synthetic benchmarks. The GPU is clocked at 550MHz with its Shaders at 1,375MHz and the memory at 1,600MHz. The memory is still using a 128-bit interface, but this was expected at this performance level.

The test system consisted of a Core 2 Duo E8400, 2GB of DDR2 1,066MHz memory and an Asus P5Q Pro motherboard. The card was tested using 3DMark05, 3DMark06 and FurMark 1.40.

At the default settings in 3DMark05 the Geforce 9500GT scored 12,331 and in 3DMark06 this dropped to 5,894, which still has to be considered a good score for what is very much a main stream graphics card. We're not familiar with FurMark, but you can check out the results over at XFastest if you're interested.
