4.8 FPS on CPU to 550 FPS on Volta
Nvidia has come up with a new optimized complier called Tensor RT 3 and demonstrated how Volta obliterates a modern server CPU.
Stocks down as it misses on automotive
Nvidia reported record revenue for the second quarter ended July 30, 2017, of $2.23 billion, up 56 percent from $1.43 billion a year earlier, and up 15 percent from $1.94 billion in the previous quarter.
Going faster than last year
Despite the fact that Jensen introduced the Volta architecture and the V100 GPU, the company has only just managed to ship the first batch of products.
Clock is tocking not ticking
The upcoming Geforce GPU architecture will be more incremental than revolutionary as Nvidia appears to be using Intel’s tick-tock strategy.
12nm FinFET, PCIe interface, and 5120 CUDA cores
After talking about the new Volta GPU at the GPU Technology Conference earlier last month, Nvidia has now officially unveiled the PCIe-based Tesla V100 GPU accelerator, based on the GV100 GPU and offering 14 TFLOPs of single-precision compute performance.
Too early for this memory
Volta is out for artificial intelligence, machine learning applications and it will be shipping in DGX 1 systems, mainly for deep learning and AI. The next Geforce will be a completely separate chip.
A watercooled desktop workstation equivalent to 400 CPUs
On Wednesday, Nvidia took the wraps off an interesting AI research product that packs the horsepower of a traditional server rack within the economical confines of a traditional desktop PC chassis.
Eight Tesla V100 accelerators equivalent to 800 desktop CPUs
Nvidia had quite a few announcements packed into a single GTC keynote this year, but among the more performance-oriented of them includes a refreshed DGX-1 supercomputer powered by eight Volta-based Tesla V100 GPUs.
Nvidia is quite happy with the performance of its Geforce GTX 1080 Ti and the new Titan Xp cards, but it seems that it plans to tell us a bit more about the Volta.
But will it be too late?
Rumours are starting to come in that Nvidia’s coming Volta will give AMD's Radeon RX Vega a good kicking thanks to Taiwan Semiconductor’s 12 nm fabrication process over Vega's 14 nm.
