Rules and delays

EU politicians have failed to agree on a formula to cap the cost of global roaming.

Representatives of the European Parliament, the European Commission and European Union countries all seem to agree that the prices mobile phone companies charge for global roaming are too high. However they can't make up their minds about what they should be.

Reuters quotes Paul Ruebig, one of two lawmakers steering the regulation through the assembly as saying that the disagreement is over the levels of price caps and whether consumers should be automatically switched to the regulated rates.

There will be a second round of meetings on May 2.

The European Parliament wants more consumer-friendly rules, with caps that would automatically apply to all at 40 euro cents a minute for making phone calls abroad and 15 euro cents for receiving them.
