Beautiful to use?

Nokia announced three upcoming handsets yesterday, the 6600 slide, the 6600 fold and the 3600 slide. As the names suggest, two of them are sliders and one of them is a flip phone. Nokia is pushing these new handsets with the slogan "Beautiful to use," as they're meant to be simple to use while having great designs at the same time.

Feature-wise, these handsets are better than average. Starting with the 3600 slide you're looking at 320x240 resolution display, although no screen size is mentioned in the press release, a 3.2Megapixel camera with auto focus and a dual LED flash, VGA resolution video recording, TV out, background noise cancellation and Nokia maps pre-installed on the supplied 512MB microSD memory card. It also has a bult-in FM radio, Bluetooth 2.0 and 30MB of built-in memory.

The 3600 slide measures 98x47x14.5mm (HxWxD) and weighs in at just over 97g. Nokia claims a 5h 30min talk time and up to 280h standby. The 3600 slid will be available in charcoal or wine and will cost around €175 excl. VAT when it arrives in Q3.

Next up is the 6600 slide, which which has a 2.2-in 320x240 LCD screen and it also features a 3.2Megapixel camera with auto focus with a dual LED flash and VGA video recording. Furthermore, it features a built-in accelerometer which allows for tap commands, a new feature for the 6600 slide and fold. Tapping either handset twice snoozes the alarm or dissmisses an unwanted phonecall.

Furthermore, the 6600 slide also comes with Nokia maps, again installed on a 512MB microSD card, it has a mere 18MB of built in memory, a built-in FM radio and Bluetooth. The 6600 slide is a 3G handset and works on the 850 and 2,100MHz bands, in other words, this model will work on U.S. 3G networks.

Nokia claims a talk time of up to 4h and a standby time of up to 14.5 days. At a 110g and 93x45x14mm (HxWxD) the 6600 slide manages to be smaller than the 3600 slide, but yet quite a lot heavier. It's only available in black and will cost €250 excl. VAT, again it will become available in Q3.

Finally, we have the 6600 fold, which features a 2.13-in OLED display with a resolution of 320x240, as well as a hidden external display with a resoltuion of 128x160 pixels. Tapping the 6600 fold when it's in standby will bring out the time on the external display, as well as any messages or missed phone call notifications.

The 6600 fold also features  a 2Megapixel camera with VGA video recording, the same measly 18MB of built-in memory as the 6600 slide, an FM radio and Bluetooth. It also comes bundled with a 512MB memory card, but there's no mention of Nokia maps.

Size-wise the 6600 fold measures 88x44x16mm (HxWxD) and weighs in at the same 110g as the 6600 slide. Nokia claims up to 4h talk time and 12 days standby time. The 6600 features the same 3G functionality as the 6600 slide. It will be available in a choice of mysterious black or sophisticated purple for €275 excl. VAT when it arrives in Q3.
