Former Kickstart to carry reasonable price tag

It looks as if North Americans in both the U.S. and Canada will be able to pick up the BlackBerry Pearl 8220, which was formally known as the Kickstart, for under $50 with at least some strings attached.

According to our sources not only will T-Mobile in the U.S. be offering the 8220 for $49.99, but Rogers in Canada will be doing this, as well. RIM wants to promote their first BlackBerry flip-phone as the perfect back-to-school companion.

The move to come in with the 8220 at such a low price could prove to be a stroke of genius for RIM, as the phone is quite stylish and could gain a lot of popularity among the young hipsters headed back to school.

While we don’t think it will be very popular in the corporate space, the 8220 should really take off with those that have been exposed to BlackBerry’s technology and who want the chance to have it as their personal cell phone.
