New Curve adds Wi-Fi with hotspot access from AT&T

As we told you some weeks back, AT&T finally has launched the new Sapphire Blue BlackBerry Curve 8320, which adds Wi-Fi access to the already popular Curve family.

The announcement really comes as no surprise, as AT&T has been already winding down the sale of the Curve 8310 for some time. We suspect that the new 8320 will be the eventual replacement for the Curve 8310 once supplies are exhausted and AT&T launches the new BlackBerry Curve 8900 (codename Javelin) which our moles expect to happen some time in the first half of next year.

The big draw on the Curve 8320 is the addition of Wi-Fi support which was not offered on the older Curve 8310. AT&T will be offering Wi-Fi access to their thousands of Wi-Fi hot spots in conjunction with the Curve 8320. Those that buy the 8320 with an unlimited personal or corporate BlackBerry service plan will be able to access these AT&T hotspots at no additional charge.

While the addition of the Curve 8320 on AT&T has been in the pipeline for some time according to sources, we suspect that it is too little too late. Many BlackBerry customers are already looking seriously at the BlackBerry Bold or the new BlackBerry Curve 8900.

Still, the addition of Wi-Fi on the 8320 does offer a compelling addition for those AT&T BlackBerry users who need it. Our moles are telling us that the 8320 will come with version 4.5 of the BlackBerry OS which was recently released as an upgrade for current BlackBerry AT&T subscribers after a long wait.
