Suggested it could show up at the MWC

With the speculation that followed the last Zune release, many of our sources have indicated that Microsoft has continued to work on a Zune phone project despite Microsoft telling everyone who would listen otherwise. Our sources are confirming that Microsoft may show off a prototype Zune phone product as soon as the 2010 Mobile World Congress.

We don’t know a lot about it, and our sources say that the secrecy surrounding the project has made details scant at best. It is likely that the Zune Phone itself is based on the latest generation Zune player which features the NVIDIA Tegra processor. The guess is that the Zune Phone would combine the strengths of the Zune along with a dash of Windows Mobile and some additional typical smart phone abilities that would rival in many ways the current generation of the Apple iPhone.

The whispers that reignited the rumor mill on the Zune phone originated from the Zune’s inf file, which seems to indicate the existence of a Zune phone device. As is typical, Microsoft isn’t talking; it is thought that Microsoft would like to move in this direction, but the challenges of playing in this arena have made the company more than a little gun shy about jumping in. Considering the struggles the company has had with the Zune product line from the get go, it does seem that if they were going to attempt to keep the product alive then this would be the direction that they need to take. We will just have to wait and see whether or not we have been caught chasing our tail.
