GSMA Mobile World Congress: Ultra mobile beast shows its face

HTC Shift has been announced today at the 2008 GSMA Mobile World Congress in Europe. It is  a Tri-Band UMTS/HSDPA, Quad-Band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® 2.0 device with a 7” touch screen embedded in a sleek case measuring L:207 x W:129 x D:25 mm, it weighs 800g, and it packs a 2,700 mAh rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery.

The innovative sliding keyboard design is one of its trademark features, along with an 800 MHz Intel® A110 Processor and 400 MHz Qualcomm® MSM 7200, which are powerful enough to run Windows Vista quite decently, we have to admit. Also, it can run up to 3 days in standby mode (HTC SnapVUE).

HTC’s Shift got its name because it can run Windows Vista or, if you are not in such demand,, you can switch it to what HTC calls HTC SnapVUE, from which you can read your emails, calendar, SMS and so on, without the need to boot up Vista.
It’s been enhanced with Microsoft’s Origami Experience 2.0 suite of software designed around Vista that provides you with immediate access to information and applications like email, calendar, RSS feeds, weather and to-do lists.

During the 2008 GSMA World Mobile Congress we had the opportunity to meat with Mr Florian Seiche, Vice President of HTC Europe, and to get a first-hand view of the device.  And I have to admit that HTC Shift is really one impressive device.
