CeBIT 2009: Linux works like a charm

We had a chance to have some fun with Asus/Garmin´s Nüvifone G60 and we were quite impressed as we honestly expect it to be laggy, but this time around Asus and Garmin really surprised us.

The Nüvifone G60 supports HSDPA, UMT900/1900/2100 EDGE/GPRS/GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networking systems and works under Linux. It comes with TI OMAP 2430 CPU that works at 400MHz which is quite weaker compared to the Qualcomm´s 7200A 528MHz on the Nüvifone M20 that runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. We had a chance to try the Linux based G60 as the Windows Mobile 6.1 M20 was behind the glass on the show and as far as we found out it still buggy so they are working on it.

The G60's dimensions are 112x58x14.7 mm and it comes with a 1100mAh battery. According to Asus´ info, this battery is enough for 3 hours of talk time and 250 hours of standby time in 3G mode and 5/200 hours in the 2G mode. The 3.5-inch WQVGA 480x272 65k TFT touch display is quite decent and good, and the picture is crisp clear. Other specifications include 802.11bg Wi-Fi, USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, 4GB of internal storage, 128 MB SDRAM, support for SDHC microSD cards for additional storage, GPS with SiRF StarIII with support for AGPS and a 3 megapixel camera with autofocus.
