EC green lights standardized phone chargers

by on31 December 2010

First smart decision ever
The European Commission has approved a new standardized smartphone charger based on the MicroUSB standard.

So far fourteen phone makers have joined the initiative, including industry heavyweights Nokia, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, RIM and Apple. Smaller manufacturers will probably join the bandwagon soon.

European Commission Vice President you Antonio Tajani believes that the new common charger will cut costs, waste and benefit both consumers and businesses. Strangely, we agree.

The European Commission was formed in 1958 and we believe this is its first good decision and we hope to see another one by the end of our lives.
