iPhone 5 mass production rumoured for September

by on18 April 2011

Launch later than usual
Although Apple has transformed the iPhone summer launch into a tradition of sorts, analysts believe that the iPhone 5 will appear a few months later than usual.

Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the new iPhone will go into trial production sometime in August, while volume production is expected in September. This basically means that the new phone won’t go on sale before October at best.

In addition, Kuo does not expect an entirely new handset. The iPhone 5 will feature the new Apple A5 processor, but it should resemble the current generation phone and it will probably stick to the same screen. The main selling point of the iPhone 5 will be the new iOS 5 operating system, in addition to some other goodies, such as the new 8MP camera.

Kuo bases his claims on information from supply chain sources and so far he has a solid track record when it comes to Apple gear. Also, several other analysts have made similar predictions in recent weeks. However, thanks to Apple’s secrecy, it is still too early to paint the full picture.

We can only hope a drunken Apple staffer will lose an iPhone 5 prototype in a German beer garden, again.
