Will add T-Mobile & Sprint compatibility
In the seemingly never ending iPhone what’s next saga, sources are saying that the next iPhone (or the 5th generation iPhone) will go by the name of the 4S. It will offer a number of new features and improvements over the previous models, but it will not offer LTE support because the Qualcomm LTE chip is not yet available in the kind of numbers Apple needs at a price that they are willing to pay.

Beyond some minor cosmetic updates and new LED flash for the camera on the opposite side of the case, an Apple A5 processor will be part of the package. Apple will also add HSPA+ support, so if can’t get LTE right now, this is the best news possible for AT&T and T-Mobile users as both networks increase HSPA+ support. This also confirms the continued move toward a T-Mobile version of the iPhone in the U.S. and we hear that a Sprint compatible model is part of the plan, but we have not been able to get a handle on when Sprint might offer the iPhone.

While no LTE isn’t really the news that many iPhone fanatics will want to hear, we are told that given the situation HSPA+ is the next best step; but it does pretty much confirm that LTE will be added next year and it will make it a tough call for many whether or not to upgrade.
