Android grabs 48 percent of the market

Growing steadily
According to Canalys, Android handsets are leading the way in the smartphone market for the third quarter running.

In Q2 Android ranked first in 35 out of 56 countries covered by the survey. Android’s global market share was 48 percent thanks to strong demand in all markets.

Apple iOS came in second with a 19 percent market share in Q2, overtaking Nokia and its ageing Symbian platform. Canalys also believes Apple became the world’s leading smartphoe vendor, dethroning Nokia after years in the lead.
