Another reason not to upgrade to the iPhone 4S

by on31 October 2011

Siri can run on an iPhone 4

One of the only reasons to buy an iPhone 4S is the gimmick software Siri, which means “arse” in Japanese. The voice recognition software allows you to talk to your phone, in the absence of real friends.

Understandably, Apple has done its best to make sure that Siri can't work on the iPhone 4, otherwise it would defeat the purpose of users having to spend a fortune on a phone upgrade they do not need. Of course Apple's controls only work within the reality distortion field. Already someone has worked out a way of putting Siri on to the iPhone 4.

Developers @stroughtonsmith and @chpwn have been able to bypass this hurdle and have been able to get Siri working on previous generation hardware. The phone seems to run ok. Apple fanboys had been claiming that Siri needed the improved A5 processor in the iPhone 4S, but it didn't.

However developers have said that there will be "no public release soon" partly because they do not want Jobs' Mob lawyers attacking them. But the fact that it is possible means that someone else will step up to the plate and provide it.
