Samsung reveals ICS upgrade schedule

Galaxy S users prepare to be disappointed

Samsung has officially revealed its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade schedule and the first devices should get their taste of ICS in the first quarter of 2012.

These include the current flagship Galaxy S II LTE smartphone, along with the Galaxy R and the huge Galaxy Note. Sadly, the original Galaxy S isn’t included in the list, which is a somewhat odd decision. Google started rolling out ICS for the Nexus S over the weekend, and the Galaxy S is practically the same phone under the bonnet.

On the tablet side of things, Samsung will offer upgrades for the Galaxy Tab 10.1, 8.9, 7.7 and the 7.0 Plus, so almost the entire lineup is covered.

However, we must say we are baffled by the decision not to include the Galaxy S in this round of upgrades. It was one of the best selling smartphones on the market and it even by today’s standards it packs rather decent hardware that should be more than capable of handling ICS. Of course, third party solutions will be available, but this is definitely a bad move on Samsung’s part.
