More LG Nexus photos emerge, yawn

Properly focused and exposed

Photos of leaked gear usually tend to end up on the blurry and noisy side, snapped in a dark warehouse with a horrible camera, but Russian leakers seem to be a taking photography much more seriously.

Russian tech blog Onliner has published a series of new shots and now we can finally see the new nexus in all its glory. Sadly the new Nexus does not look very spectacular. Once again Google seems to have opted for an all-plastic device without much personality. Of course, it’s all a matter of personal taste, but the Nexus doesn’t have the eye-catching design of Samsung’s Galaxy S III or the understated elegance of the iPhone 5. It doesn’t look bad, but it could have been better.

On the upside, the new Nexus appears to feature a completely flat design. There is no curved screen and the hump on the back is gone, replaced by a completely flat, glossy surface with a subtle texture. It looks like a throwback to the Nexus S. We are not huge fans of glossy plastics on phones or any sort of mobile devices, but at least on a flat surface a glossy finish is less susceptible to tiny marks and scratches. Also, let’s not forget that the Nexus should be available in white as well and it could look a bit better than the black version.

Since it does not feature a removable back cover, built quality should also be somewhat better and anyone who has ever dealt with flimsy plastic covers on the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus should appreciate the change.
