Sony 2012 gets Jelly Bean in 2013

by on22 October 2012

And the fragmentation saga continues

Personally we get upset with Android updates and the way manufacturers and carriers deal with them. In reality we should be talking about the lack of updates and slow pace of software rollouts across the Android world.

Sony is no exception and despite the fact that the company had a very decent lineup of Xperia phones in 2012 it turns out that none of them will get any Jelly Bean Android 4.1 love in 2012. Sony has officially confirmed that Xperia T, Xperia TX and soon to launch Xperia V will begin to receive the Jelly bean update from the middle of Q1 2013.

This is not all, as global versions of the Xperia S, Xperia acro S, Xperia ion, Xperia P, Xperia go and finally Xperia J will get Android 4.1, but Sony doesn’t want to confirm any firm date just yet. The 2011 lineup got updated to Android 4.0.4 the Ice Cream Sandwich and this will be the end of the upgrade road for them. Sony cannot guarantee improved user experience beyond ICS for these phones.

There is no point in even bringing up Android 4.2, that might be rolling on next Monday to some Nexus phones leaving Sony phones in a cat and mouse game, lagging at least a generation behind daddy Google.

It’s almost like Google is making its partners intentionally weaker so it can slowly take over the world with in-house devices. Didn’t it already start with the Nexus 7?
