Samsung launches yet another Galaxy phone

by on31 October 2012

4.65-inch Galaxy Premier

Samsung has introduced yet another Galaxy-branded phone, in an apparent effort to make its Galaxy brand completely pointless. Ranging from low-end devices to the flagship S III, the Galaxy brand now covers two dozen phones and it’s becoming a branding mess. Think S III Mini.

However, the new Galaxy Premier is no slouch and it has a fitting name. It basically looks like a Galaxy Nexus dressed up like an S III for Halloween. Nestled under the stylish costume, we find some familiar components, such as a 4.65-inch 720p Super AMOLED panel, TI OMAP 4470 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 1GB of RAM and Jelly Bean. In the camera department, the Premier takes its cue from the S III rather than the Nexus, with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing unit. NFC and Bluetooth 4.0 are also on board.

Now this sort of device would live up to S III Mini branding, well at least the S III part. At least Samsung didn’t call it the S III Midi.

Now for some bad news. The Premier did launch, but it only launched in the Ukraine, hence we have no international pricing or availability date. On the upside, it looks like a pretty good alternative to the S III, provided Samsung doesn’t go nuts with the pricing like it did with the S III Mini.
