Samsung the winner of Apple’s iPhone 5 cock-up

Telcos have to offer Samsung at a cut price

A tactical stuff-up by Jobs’ Mob will mean that its rival Samsung will be laughing all the way to the bank. Apple’s iPhone 5 bars customers of some European carriers from accessing the fastest available mobile networks.

According to Bloomberg this daft move has forced those operators to cut prices for handsets from rivals such as Samsung. By restricting the iPhone 5 Vodafone and many other European operators are being pushed harder into the arms of Samsung. Samsung’s popular Galaxy line of phones includes a 4G version that is compatible with their networks.

That is at odds with the Tame Apple Press’s insistance that the iPhone 5 will become the fastest selling technology gadget in history. The Tame Apple press insists this about every product which is flushed out of Apple’s marketing machine. The reality is that the iPhone 5 has a lot counting against it. The most obvious is that Samsung’s product is actually better. We played with both and the differences were not that great and Samsung is cheaper and allows more freedom. The mapping software also is radically different from Apple’s in that it actually works.

Samsung’s latest Galaxy S III, which has a bigger screen than the iPhone 5 and also works with 4G networks based on different frequencies. Apple’s own shareprice is slipping as shareholders are starting to wake up to the fact that the company is overpriced and cannot repeat its past glories.
