Samsung loses mobile boss

by on04 October 2013

But who could have poached him?

Samsung's mobile division has lost its chief product officer, Kevin Packingham. According to the Wall Street Journal, the departure was announced internally on Tuesday, but it is still unclear where Packingham plans to continue his career.

Samsung confirmed the departure and thanked Pakingham for his contributions to the company. Packingham oversaw the S III launch last year and negotiated the release of Samsung’s flagship on all major US carriers.

Since results don’t appear to have been an issue, the departure is rather puzzling. Packingham spent just two years at Samsung Mobile in Dallas and before that he was a Sprint executive. It remains to be seen whether he is getting back into the carrier game or if another smartphone outfit made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.
