LG officially outs LG Gx

In case the LG G2 with its 5.2-inch screen is not big enough for you, LG has decided to release yet another G series phone simply called LG Gx. Its 5.5-inch IPS LED is a 1920x1080 resolution affair and the phone measures 150.6x76.1x9.2mm. It weighs 167 grams which is something you can expect from a quite big phone.

Naturally it comes with tap to unlock feature that we saw across the G series phones and tablets and once you get used to it, it’s a nice addition. You get disappointed when you tap on a Nexus 7, Tegra Note 7 or other devices and realize that it won't work for non-LG devices. The LG Gx comes in black and white and its main competitors come from Samsung, both in the form of the Samsung Note 3 and cheaper Galaxy Mega phablets.

The LG Gx comes with a Snapdragon 600 processor, a downgrade from Snapdragon 800 we saw with the G2, but even at 1.7GHz it should perform most tasks just fine. The phone has 2GB of memory, 32GB storage and no microSD support which is unusual for phablets. Even the HTC One Max has microSD, something that many users are missing on their all-integrated phones.

The device comes with a 3140mAh battery which is just slightly larger than 3000 mAh that we saw with the LG G2. It features Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 for data and charging, NFC and it also works well with LG TVs.

The device comes with a 13-megapixel camera and 1.3-megapixel front facing camera, something that we saw with LG G2 and the disappointing part is the 4.2.2 Jelly Bean software that will get updated to a newer version at some point in 2014. The phone is an upgrade for the LG Optimus G Pro that comes with an older processor, same size and resolution screen, but with a microSD slot.

This is a Korean phone and it works with Korean 2.6GHz 4G, but it also supports HSPA+, EVDO and VoLTE. One can argue that LG is somewhat late to the market, knowing that Samsung, HTC, Sony and even Nokia shipped their own phablets a while ago.
