Apple Health product ignores women

by on03 October 2014

After all they only half the population

While the Tame Apple Press sings the praises of Apple’s HealthKit, it appears to have failed to spot the fact it ignores women.

While Apple’s HealthKit can help you keep track of your blood alcohol content, your weight and height, it will tell you how often you use your inhaler and sprinkle salt on you food. But if you are a woman who wants to track her cycles the geniuses at Apple clearly didn’t think of that.

Apple somehow managed to ignore the fact that half its customers have a menstrual cycle which they are very concerned about tracking. It is not as if they don’t know the software exists. Cycle tracking is a popular app on the iPhone – for a very important reason. Not only can a woman work out when their period is due the can also calculate fertility cycles.

These are becoming an important part of women’s lives. However, Apple is completely unaware of it. The company is mostly white males and its fanboy base are single males living at home and the only women they see are their menopausal mums. Periods are something icky anyway – real men don’t menstruate.

But hey, they can tell how much salt they are sprinkling on their food, that should sort them out.
