Android Wear hits 100K+ installations

by on08 October 2014

Bumps to 1.02 version

We have been following the birth of Android Wear for a while and for the last two weeks we've been playing with the LG G Watch to see and feel Google Wear in action.

We will come do a somewhat more detailed report on the new platform later, but the general feeling the Android Wear platform is good, although there is still a lot of work to be done. It lacks many features users would like to have on a smartwatch, but it is a nice first step.

Android Wear on 100,000+ phones

Android Wear now has more than 100,000 activations. Motorola's Moto 360 launch manageed to grab a lot of attention, but Android Wear is still a far from reaching a million installations. The market doesn’t think that a watch is something that has to have Android and a day of battery life.

We have been tracking Android Wear installations from the beginning and back in July Google had 10,000+ installations. in August it managed to get to 50,000 to 100,000 and currently it is over 100,000.

Next Android Wear update to bring GPS and Google Maps

Android Wear has just been updated to 1.02 and there are no clear indications what was changed. Many believe that this is an update that is supposed to prepare your watch for the next Android Wear update that is expected on October 15th and that is supposed to get Google Maps and GPS functionality to Android Wear watches.

We have noticed is a slight delay in an application deployment as the US customers get it at least a few hours earlier than the Europe. This has to be a server issue, as Google probably doesn’t want to put too much load on its servers at the same time.
