5.5-inch ZenFone in tow

Asus is planning to officially launch its first smartwatch next Tuesday, 28th of October.

The date showed up on a number of teasers unearthed by the Gadgetz Arena blog.

The ZenWatch was announced and showcased a while ago and we covered it on multiple occasions. It sports a 320x320 pixel 1.6-inch AMOLED display, Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage.

The price is what sets it apart from the competition, as the watch should launch at €199 in Europe, making it €50 to €100 cheaper than the Moto 360 and LG G Watch R. Of course, it's not round like LG's and Motorola's watches, but that is not necessarily a bad thing, since it still looks good and and the square screen could prove more useful in a range of situations (Android Wear is not exactly designed for round screens. Ed).

As for the new ZenFone, the rumour mill suggests it is a 5.5-inch device with Intel Inside. Not much is known about the oversized ZenFone, but Asus has a tradition of competitive pricing. While it's not a big name in the smartphone space, Asus is still expected to ship 7-8 million ZenFones this year.
