Apple update bricks older phones

You do have to wipe everything

Fruity cargo cult Apple has continued its war on customers who don't upgrade by bricking older phones until customers restore them to factory settings.

Last week we ran a story about how the iOS9 upgrade was bricking iPhones and iPads.  There were loads of  complaints that devices were unable to progress past the "Slide to Upgrade" screen when moving to the latest version of iOS.

Apples solution over the weekend was to claim that a "small number of users" just needed to wipe all their data and start over.  Its genius solution would only work of course if customers backed up their data.  Now, everyone knows you should do a back-up before you upgrade, but Apple fanboys are not the most technically literate so we suspect a lot of Coldplay complete collections and selfies have been deleted.

Apparently that does not always work and you might need to try it several times.  Still you get what you pay for and that appears to be part of the problem.  The upgrade borks those who did not upgrade to iOS8 which was widely seen as Apple's Vista moment.  There were all sorts of flaws with iOS some of which Apple even repaired they were that bad.

Fudzilla's work around is much more efficiant in the long term.  Firstly take your iPhone and hit it with reasonabl force with a sledgehammer.  Then buy a proper phone which does not require a format if you upgrade.

In fact the only work around you can be sure of is to hit your iPhone with a hammer and buy something less problematic, and cheaper.
