Android 6.0 for Nvidia this year

The fresh blood in Nvidia’s Tegra Team, the legendary Will O’Neal  has teased us with a video about the upcoming Android 6.0 for Shield tablet K1.

O’Neal joined Nvidia after years at CNet as the Editor in Chief of techradar.com web portal. There he is helping out with Shield online marketing.

The K1 is Nvidia’s latest Shield-based product that has quite a good spec and sells for $199. The device is only missing the pen from the original Shield Tablet otherwise it is nearly identical. Once can see this one as a cut-down price version of the original Shield tablet.

The Shield K1 will be the first tablet to get the Android 6.0.  It looks like this will happen in the next two weeks.  Original Shield users might get it at later date, but it will happen. Since we only have some 10 days to go in this year we would expect to see the update as the part of Jensen's Christmas miracle..

The Android 6.0 update uses the white drawer theme that we got to know from Lollipop but the drawer is now continuous and unbroken in pages like before.

The new update highlights the new camera app. This is hardly surprising as the K1 tablet uses camera enhancements powered by Tegra K1 processor.

Android 6.0 gives you more control over your Apps and this is one of the biggest features for the new Marshmallow. We experienced this with Nexus 9 which was one of the first tablets to get the update.

Marshmallow brings a better storage management, will use your micro SD card and automatically install your applications. It was about the time to see this happening as the Android M can decide where to install which application. We are not sure how much control you will have over this but Android 6.0 aka Android M will install the large games on the micro SD and copy the big movies to the storage that has more capacity.

Pressing the home button will bring up the dialog that will make searching for apps much easier.

The Shield K1 tablet is perfect for gamers and supports the Geforce Now feature and Tegra games. This works with Lollipop but with Android 6.0 update it should work a bit better. Nvidia likes to launch things on Tuesday and guess what tomorrow is Tuesday.
