CNN launches data-driven "Politics" mobile app

iOS-only launch may cause CNN user frustrations

With the passing of Supreme Court Justice Scalia in February, the indirect enabling of illegal alien voters to participate in primaries, and the possibility of contested party conventions later this summer, the 2016 United States presidential election has now become the most significant election since 1932.

By and large, for better or for worse, the impacts of this election will nevertheless be felt until tomorrow's children reach ages 25 and 30. Thankfully, there is an app to help with day-by-day trendlines and information defining the race

CNN has just launched its own "Politics" app, built with CA Technologies API management and mobile analytics software. It is a unique mobile app that tracks the latest polling, delegate, voting and fundraising data behind the 2016 race.

The company, owned by Turner Broadcasting System, will send personalized alerts and notifications, putting its readers and viewers at the forefront of this election and empowering them to analyze the data driving the political landscape to November 2016.

So far, CNN is the first of the American television news networks to publish an application exclusively for political dialogue. Meanwhile, RealClearPolitics (RCP) has an app available as well as Politico, but these are web-based news outlets. Unfortunately, it is only available for Apple users right now (sounds a bit discriminatory), but we would sincerely hope that the company is in the process of developing an Android app before any protests or backlash start to take place.

“From polling to fundraising to delegate counts, who is tracking well and who isn’t, there is a wealth of data associated with this historic campaign,” said Matthew Drooker, vice president of app development and technology, CNN. “We partnered with CA Technologies to build a native mobile experience for users to digest the meaning behind the numbers in a compelling and entirely personal way. The result is an informative, immersive and indispensable multimedia experience.”

The software developers at CA have said they are satisfied with the performance of the application .CNN's brand studio, Courageous, has also produced a behind-the-scenes video to showcase the development of the app.
