Samsung buys trademark for Galaxy X

Folding phone on its way

Maker of inflammatory phones and unfortunate backer of the wrong horse, Samsung has trademarked the name Galaxy X.

For those who came in late, Samsung has been talking about a commercially available foldable smartphone for years. The outfit has got the tech working and demonstrated it in the past but so far it has not been seen.

Now it seems that Samsung has recently filed for a trademark for the name “Galaxy X”, which was rumoured to be the line-up of smartphones that will feature a foldable display.

This trademark was filed at KIPRIS, which is the body in Korea that deals with intellectual property and normally a company does not do it until they are certain a product will be coming.

The rumour is that the phone can be folded and unfolded in any direction and we could be seeing it launched in Q3 2017. This will roughly be when the Galaxy Note 8 will be announced.

Still it is a rumour for now, but it will provide Samsung with an innovation crown as this sort of thing will be rather futuristic.
