Galaxy S8 with Snapdragon X16 modem
The Samsung Galaxy S8 will end up with pre-order customers before the end of this week. But if they get one from T-Mobile US, people might experience GigabitLTE speeds in the near future.
Average speeds can double
We had a chance to see the GigabitLTE working at speeds up to 930 Mbps and upload speeds of 127.5 Mbps which is definitely the fastest that we’ve ever seen. But despite the fascination with the top speed, it is more important that GigabitLTE will significantly increase average speeds.
Qualcomm takes the lead
It has been quite some time since Qualcomm announced Snapdragon X16, the world’s first Gigabit LTE modem. The same GigabitLTE Snapdragon X16 modem is now part of the Snapdragon 835 - a 10nm SoC that is about to debut in a dozen high end phones.
Telstra network demonstrate technology leadership, 127.5 Mbps upload
Sydney Australia is definitely the capital of the word’s fastest LTE performance. I'm here and have just witnessed a 1Gbps demonstration of a Netgear powered 1Gbps modem on Ericsson equipment deployed on a Telstra LTE network.
4×4 MIMO and QAM 256 are the first step in the USA
Back in September, T-Mobile in the US announced that it supports 4×4 MIMO as well as QAM 256 on the download and QAM 64 on the upload side. The first phone to get this support was the Samsung Galaxy S7 and it looks like in 2017, T mobile will get you to 1Gbps class speeds or speeds up to 979 Mbps.
It is finally happening
Telstra in Australia was the first company to launch both 600 Mbps and 1Gbps networks but it looks like T-Mobile in the US plans to launch 1Gbps in 2017 too.
Shipping in Q4, Note 7 supports it
Qualcomm has been very vocal about 4x4 LTE MIMO and its support for this standard. Samsung is preparing to start shipping its LTE infrastructure in Q4 16 and we also learned that the Galaxy Note 7 also supports 4x4 LTE MIMO.
