Dynamic Energy Saver

We've already written about Gigabyte's upcoming DES, or Dynamic Energy Saver technology, but it's finally starting to arrive and despite the fact that we expected to see X48 boards as the first products to feature DES, it seems like the delay of the chipset has meant that Gigabyte had to revise its game plan; and we're now looking at scores of updated P35 boards, instead.

The good news is that if you own a revision 2.1 P35 board from Gigabyte, it's very likely that this board will support DES. The full list of supported boards can be found here and some of them are even upcoming products.

Gigabyte will be changing the model names of its boards that support DES and the P35 range will, for example, change from GA-P35-DS3 rev. 2.1 to the much simpler GA-EP35-DS3, where the E denotes DES support.

If this technology sounds interesting to you and you own a revision 2.1 board, then you should head over here to download the utility you need, as well as the latest BIOS for your motherboard to make it all work. Only the listed boards are supported.

The official launch date is set for the 16th of January, but as we mentioned, the boards are already on sale.
