G45 found on Gigabyte board

Not only did Tom's Hardware Taiwan get a preview of Intel's P45 chipset from Gigabyte, but they've also posted a preview of Intel's upcoming G45 chipset. Although this time around there are no benchmarks, this looks like it's going to be one seriously interesting chipset for the HTPC crowd.

Saying that, it all depends on what the motherboard manufacturers do with it, but in the case of the Gigabyte G45M-DS2H, it looks like the two have come up with a winner. This board supports all types of Core 2-based Intel processors and the integrated GPU should offer enough grunt to handle all of the high definition video formats on the market and then some.

Considering that the Gigabyte board then features DVI, D-sub, HDMI, optical S/PDIF out, six USB 2.0 ports, eSATA, FireWire, Gigabit Ethernet, 7.1-channel sound and a PS/2 port for your keyboard, you also get a rocking mATX board. It's also the first mATX board from Gigabyte to feature all solid capacitors and DES.

It also has seven internal SATA connectors, one IDE connector, headers for another six USB 2.0 ports and a further FireWire port. Finally, there's a x16 PCIe slot, two PCI slots and a PCIe x1 slot. The chipset is cooled by the same basic aluminium heatsink as the P45 chipset based-board.

You can find several pictures, as well as a screen shot of of this board, up and running here in Mandarin.
