You might as well use Ubuntu

Asus has come up with a new version of its Express Gate Linux OS, namely a "lite" version which we mentioned here. Express Gate was a clever idea, add some flash memory to the motherboard and you've got what is more or less an instant on OS, although it was somewhat limited in terms of functionallity.

Express Gate Lite, on the other hand, only shares the code base, as you have to install it onto a partition on your hard drive, although Asus does allow for it to be installed to USB drives, but warns that the performance might be reduced.

We'd recommend to download a copy of Ubuntu instead and boot from a disc, as this wouldn't cause any issues which Express Gate Lite might by messing with your boot sector on the hard drive if you're not an experienced user.

To Asus's defencs we'll add that Express Gate Lite has been tuned to work with its motherboards, so all the drivers will be there from scratch, which might help in some scenarios where Ubuntu would lack full driver support on the disc.
