PCIe problem

Intel P45 / G45 chipsets will end up being delayed. It is more serious than we believed as the chipset has a PCIe problem.

When you plug a PCIe 16X card in the slot the chipset sends the card back to PCIe 1X speed and it looks like a hardware problem that needs another chipset re-spin to solve it. This will likely push the motherboards from May to a later date.

The biggest novelty of the P45 is PCIe 2.0 support that we've seen with X38 and X48 series but not with the P35. If the only selling argument of the new chipset doesn’t works correctly you have a huge issue.

Since Intel doesn’t really have any chipset manufacturer to compete with, it's not a big deal for Intel, but it will mess some sales numbers of its motherboard partners.
