Early board shots

Chinese website PCOnline has scored some pictuters of an early board from Chinese motherboard and graphics card manufacturer Unika and it gives away some further information about this upcoming AMD chipset and what it has on offer.

Although we've already told you about the fact that the 790GX chipset supports Hybrid CrossFireX with two graphics cards, what we didn't know was that the 790GX supports a local frame buffer, just as the 780G. Sadly, hardly any of the manufacturers of 780G boards have gone for the frame buffer option, as it adds cost, despite the fact that the performance increase validates the extra cost.

The Unika board uses a single 64MB DDR2 memory chip from Hynix and although this doesn't sound like much, it adds to overall system performance, as the IGP doesn't have to share system memory in Windows and the frame buffer is faster than sharing system memory when you're playing games using the IGP. The 790GX seems to have been given an improved graphics core over thet 780G and it looks like it will go under the name of Radeon HD 3300.

The board itself doesn't look that remarkable, it has a pair of x16 slots which operates in x8 mode when both are in use, two x1 PCIe slots and two PCI slots. It also has a DVI and D-sub connector, four USB 2.0 ports, eSATA, Gigabit Ethernet, 7.1-channel HD audio with coaxial S/PDIF, two PS/2 ports and an external CMOS reset button around the back.

Add to this seven SATA ports, one IDE connector, what appears to be power and reset buttons, a debug LED display, headers for a further six or maybe eight USB 2.0 ports and headers for a parallel and serial port. The board goes under the name of Delta Force and it's unlikely it'll ever make it outside of China.
