ICH10 is not PCIe 2.0

Not much change from ICH9

Intel's upcoming ICH10 doesn't seem to add many new features compared to the current ICH9 and it won't even be upgraded to PCIe 2.0. To take advantage of Intel's next generation of Turbo Memory modules which will come to the desktop later this year, you also need to have the ICH10R, as the plain ICH10 doesn't seem to support Turbo Memory.

The only really new feature is Corwin Springs, which we told you about here. The only other new addition is that the plain ICH10 has support for AHCI, or hot swappable SATA devices, something the plain ICH9 doesn't have.

Intel has killed off the DH or Digital Home version of its ICH and allowed for the normal versions to be used in Viiv certified platforms. On the business side of things, Intel has added a new RAID free version of its ICH, which will be known as the ICH10D with the RAID enabled version keeping the DO suffix.

The ICH10D and DO will support a wide range of managebility features which is important for large corporate customers and Intel has also integrated a TPM module into these two version of the ICH10, although only the ICH10DO will get vPro certification.
