The P45-Extreme gets updated

Even before it has launched, Gigabyte has made some major changes to it's P45-Extreme motherboard, which the company is going to release as a competitor to Foxconn's Black Ops motherboard. You might've seen some pictures online of the early revision with a large heatsink located vertically on the motherboard, and this is the part that has been updated.

As you can see from the picture below, there's a new watercooler on the chipset instead of the air cooler with heatpipes that was on the earlier revision of the board. The chipset will, of course, work fine even if it's just air cooled, but on the earlier pictures of the board it wasn't clear how the watercooling would work.

What you can't tell from this picture is that Gigabyte has also added water inlets to the large vertical heatsinkwhich should further enhance the cooling performance of the chipset on this motherboard.

The overall design of the P45-Extreme is quite different from the rest of the P45 motherboards that Gigabyte will launch in less than a month's time, although we doubt that this model will be among the first to hit the market.
