For free sometime in July

You might not be familiar with EFI, but to make a long story short, it's a replacement for the BIOS that is found on all motherboards, and it features a much more user friendly interface; and you can use the mouse to point and click your way around the UI.

MSI has been talking about EFI for quite some time now, but not quite as long as Microsoft and it looks like it's finally happening. Although it won't come pre-installed on MSI's P45 motherboards, the company will release EFI updates for the BIOS sometime in July, according to bit-tech.

However, there's one small issue if you're planning to upgrade to EFI, and that is that tools such as CPU-Z, SpeedFan and other system monitoring and overlocking tools won't work unless you're using Windows Vista x64 SP1. However, you can still use the EFI update with any OS if you're not concerned about these kind of applications.

We're sure there will be a workaround coming in due time, as it's still early days for EFI. It's the way forward and we'd expect more motherboard manufacturers to follow suite this year.
