Computex 08: AMD form factor for Intel CPU

We were intrigued to see an Atom board from ECS that used the AMD DTX form factor, and we’re not sure that Intel is too happy about this. In saying that, we haven’t seen any other DTX motherboards apart from this one so far.

The 945GCT-D, as the board is known, has two PS/2 ports, a serial port, a D-sub connector, four USB 2.0 ports, 10/100Mbit Ethernet and three audio jacks around the back.

It also has two memory slots, but all Atom motherboards with two memory slots are limited to using single-sided modules; in other words, if you use high density memory modules of 1GB or more, you’re unlikely to get all the memory chips on one side of the module.

There’s also a PCI and PCIe x1 slot on the board thanks to the DTX form factor. Finally, it has two SATA ports, one IDE connector and headers for four more USB 2.0 ports.
