Computex 08: Only for single-slot cards

Galaxy might not be the first brand that springs to mind when you're looking for a motherboard, but the company has slowly expanded its range and they claim that they make the motherboards in-house; and judging by their designs this might well be the case.

Although the company had several boards with Intel's latest chipsets on display, none of them really caught our attention, but one board really stood out among the ones on display, and it was a mATX Geforce 9300 board; and what really made this board special is the fact that it has a pair of x16 PCIe slots.

We'd expect that you should be able to do SLI on this board, although you'd most likely be limited to dual x8 and, of course, single-slot cards due to the layout of the motherboard. The only other expansion slot is a single x1 PCIe slot.

Around the back you'll find two PS/2 ports, a D-sub, DVI, two USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet and 7.1-channel sound. There's headers for a further six USB 2.0 ports, six SATA ports and four memory slots, as well as a debug LED display.

Galaxy is also developing a speech post-information system that will tell you through your speakers if something has gone wrong with your motherboard or the hardware attached to it.
