Review: OCZ ProXStream 1000W

OCZ has two 1000w power supply units in its product lineup. One is meant to go the gamers market, and the other one is for professional use in servers domain. OCZ GameXStream 1010W PSU has been introduced recently and you can find out more about it here.

Today we will tell you little bit about ProXStream the other 1000W PSU, the one that we have been using for a while in our lab.

ProXStream 1000W has been designed so that one can use it for any purpose. Enthusiasts and system builders will appreciate the quality and small size of the OCZ ProXStream. It will fit in small towers and 80mm fan will keep things cool and won’t be too loud, not even if you make your PSU work hard. We can say that we got a lot more annoyed with the EVGA chipset fan on 680SLI motherboard, that little thing tends to be lauder then the OCZ ProXStream fan.

Small dimensions give the possibility of fitting the PSU into smaller towers.

This stable and reliable PSU has enough power for any given challenge. Four channels with +12V(20A) will do the job if working with Quad core or SLI systems. We didn’t get the chance to test Quad core GPU, but we tested Intel QX6700 quad core and SLI with 2x8800GTX. All tests were completed without any issues.  What you get with the PSU is 6 molex, 2FDD and 6 SATA cables and 20+4 pin cable compatible with any motherboard on the market.

Conclusion

This power supply unit will be enough for any system, it does not matter if it is quad core processor or SLI system with 2x8800GTX, you will have enough power. Good quality and very good form will satisfy even the most demanding users. We kind of missed the power switch which allows you to turn the PSU off, but OCZ mentioned that this compromise had to be made due to the small dimensions of the unit.

This is the only 1000W PSU that will fit in any tower. If you are one of the people that need that switch and feel that the 80mm fan is too small, you can always pick the 1010W version that has bigger fan. After all we have to add that the ProXtreme 1000W will be a bit too much for most pockets since the price will be close to €300. Gamers should how ever go for the GameXStream line, which has been developed for them.
