DICE console Battlefield title moved back

It appears that all of the rumors that have been flying around the past week have turned out to be true, and Battlefield: Bad Company slated for the console systems is going to be delayed. While Battlefield: Bad Company was originally slated for an early 2008 release, for reasons that have yet to become clear the title has now been slated for a mid-2008 ship date.

The Battlefield: Bad Company story line centers on a group of renegade soldiers who are seeking revenge and gold behind enemy lines. Battlefield: Bad Company is the first title from DICE that uses the company’s new “Frostbite” engine and technology. Neither DICE nor Electronic Arts have yet to release any public comment as to the specifics on why the title is going to miss the original targeted shipping time frame, but we do expect them to release a more specific shipping date target soon.

Some are suggesting that the new target ship date will be sometime in June 2008, because DICE and EA do not want to compete with the release of GTA IV and Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, and the delay will give DICE more time to polish the game prior to the new release date.

The delay of Battlefield: Bad Company will not affect or delay the recently announced Play-4-Free Battlefield: Heroes PC title that was recently announced, according to inside sources.
