Just as Oracle kills them off
There was mixed news for the Oracle community this morning after it was announced that Oracle was killing off support for the chips. Already Microsoft and Red Hat have said that they can't be bothered supporting it, and that only leaves HP as still interested.

HP have responded by announcing that it is shoving Quad-Core Itaniums into a new nonstop Blade server. The maker of jolly expensive printer Ink said that its Integrity NonStop BladeSystem NB54000c will offer twice the performance of the current dual-core NonStop system. As you would expect the Integrity NonStop BladeSystem NB54000c is powered by a quad-core chip from Intel’s Itanium 9300 “Tukwila” lineup, which was released in February 2010.

Along with the performance improvement, the new system also offers a simple upgrade path, an important factor for customers that rely on the NonStop systems to keep their running constantly, which probably will not be that many. However HP is hoping to pick up a few of Oracle's customers.
