Dell has bought Zing Systems which makes audio synching and streaming software for mobile devices.
Zing software is used by hardware makers such as SanDisk and Sirius and was founded by Tim Bucher, the former Apple executive who developed the Mac Mini.
Dell is not saying why it wants Zing, saying only that the software would be used for "improving the entertainment experiences".
It seems however that the move is about improving its consumer offerings after falling behind rival HP in the home PC market.
