Shipment imminent?

Asus has finally posted up specifications of its Eee PC on its website and the portal site looks like it has plenty of information about the upcoming low-cost sub-notebook.

The specifications are only for the A701 model and there will aparently be another three varations, maybe even more in the future.

Although we already know it will use an Intel CPU and chipset, Asus hasn't confirmed what the final models will be using, although the first generation appears to be having a ULV Celeron M 353 which is clocked at 900MHz.

The operating system is aparently Xandros OS, which is based on Linux, but you can actually install Windows XP on the Eee PC if you so wish.

The A701 will have 512MB of some type of DDR2 system memory and a 4GB SSD drive as well as 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, 10/100Mbit Ethernet, three USB 2.0 ports, a 0.3 Megapixel webcam and HD audio with built in speakers (they're on each side the screen) and a mic.

The 4-cell battery is meant to be good for about 3h of usage, which is ok for a sub 1kg notebook. The whole thing only measures 225x164x35mm (WxDxH).

You can find the Eee PC website here and there's a small animated GIF there that will give you an idea of what the OS looks like.
