Microsoft is ignoring demand

Despite the fact that customers still want Windows XP, Microsoft has decided that it will not be issued to OEMs by the end of the year.

According to a spokesman from Lenovo, Microsoft's contracts are insisting that by 2008 OEMs will only be able to sell Vista.

APC magazine said here that the OEM version of XP Professional goes next January. Despite a huge advertising campaign, Microsoft is not having any success in getting smaller customers away from the more stable XP.

Even Dell has said that it will continue offering Windows XP on select Dimension and Inspiron systems until later this summer.
